  • 1 oz pear simple syrup homemade or store-bought
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

  • 1/4 ripe pear for muddling
  • ice cubes large cubes preferred
  • pear slice for garnish
  • lemon twist for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Toss the pear chunk and simple syrup into your shaker.
  • Muddle until the pear’s mostly mashed and juicy.
  • Add bourbon, lemon juice, and bitters.
  • Fill with ice, shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain into an Old Fashioned glass over fresh ice.
  • Top with a pear slice or a twist of lemon.

Notes

Homemade pear syrup: Simmer equal parts sugar, water, and chopped pear until soft. Strain and cool. Add more syrup for extra sweetness, or a cinnamon stick for warmth. Double-strain for less pulp. Use fresh, ripe pear for best flavor. Adjust balance of sweet and tart to taste. Big ice cubes keep the drink cold and slow dilution.
