Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Muddler
  • Tall glass
  • Strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

Here's what you'll need to make one Passionfruit Paloma:

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz passionfruit puree or juice
  • 2 oz grapefruit soda
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Salt for rimming glass
  • Grapefruit wedge and mint sprig for garnish

Use 100% agave tequila for the best flavor. Fresh lime juice is a must - bottled lime juice won't taste as bright and zesty.

Instructions

Follow these steps to mix up your Passionfruit Paloma:

  • Rim a tall glass with salt. Set aside.
  • Add tequila, lime juice, passionfruit, and simple syrup to a shaker with ice.
  • Shake well for 10-15 seconds until very cold.
  • Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  • Top with grapefruit soda and stir gently to combine.
  • Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and mint sprig.

Adjust the sweetness to your taste by adding more or less simple syrup. You can also play with the ratio of passionfruit to grapefruit.

    Notes

This recipe makes one cocktail but can be easily scaled up to serve a crowd. For a non-alcoholic version, swap the tequila for extra grapefruit soda.
Don't have passionfruit puree? Use 1/2 oz grenadine instead for a more traditional Paloma flavor.
Fresh grapefruit juice can replace the soda for a less sweet drink. Start with 2 oz juice and add soda water to taste.
Storing leftover passionfruit puree in ice cube trays makes it easy to use in future cocktails. Just thaw a cube or two as needed.
