Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice or grapefruit soda
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or agave syrup
  • 2 oz sparkling water or club soda
  • cucumber salt fine salt mixed with grated cucumber, dried slightly
  • kosher salt optional, for rim blend
  • grapefruit wedge or slice, for garnish
  • ice ice cubes or crushed ice

Instructions

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass.
  • Dip the rim into cucumber salt until coated all around.
  • Fill the glass with ice.
  • Combine tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  • Shake for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into your prepared glass.
  • Top with sparkling water or grapefruit soda.
  • Give it a gentle stir with a bar spoon.
  • Add a grapefruit wedge or slice for garnish.

Notes

Red grapefruit is sweeter and gives a gorgeous color. Swap in mezcal for a smoky twist, or add bitters for spice. Fresh juice and chilled ingredients make a big difference. No soda? Fresh juice plus club soda works great.
