Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila or silver tequila
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.25 oz simple syrup or agave nectar, adjust to taste
  • 2 leaves fresh basil or 3 leaves
  • 3 oz grapefruit soda or Topo Chico or sparkling water
  • salt for the rim, optional
  • ice cubes
  • grapefruit wedge or lime wedge, for garnish

Instructions

  • Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip in salt if desired.
  • In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the basil leaves.
  • Add tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into a highball glass filled with ice.
  • Top with grapefruit soda, Topo Chico, or sparkling water.
  • Stir gently to mix.
  • Garnish with a grapefruit wedge, lime wedge, or basil sprig.

Notes

Add jalapeño slices for a spicy kick or more agave syrup for sweetness. Squeeze extra lime on top if you like it more citrusy. Chill ingredients beforehand for the crispest cocktail. Topo Chico is great for extra sparkle!
