Equipment

  • Highball glass or tall cocktail glass
  • Cocktail shaker with lid
  • Muddler
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer
  • Small plate
  • Ice cubes
  • Strainer

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila blanco or reposado
  • 2 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup adjust to taste
  • 2-3 fresh mint leaves plus more for garnish
  • grapefruit soda, club soda, or Squirt to top
  • kosher salt for rim
  • ice cubes
  • grapefruit wedge and lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  • Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a highball glass, then dip it into kosher salt.
  • Add mint leaves and simple syrup to the shaker. Gently muddle to release mint oils.
  • Pour in tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, and lime juice.
  • Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into the prepared glass filled with ice.
  • Top with grapefruit soda or sparkling water.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a grapefruit wedge, lime wedge, and sprig of mint.

Notes

For smoky flavor, use mezcal instead of tequila. If using sweet grapefruit soda, skip the syrup. Sparkling water makes a lighter drink. Serve cold and fizzy, with plenty of fresh mint.
