  • Citrus juicer
  • Highball glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Small plate

Ingredients

  • 2 oz fresh blood orange juice
  • 2 oz tequila (blanco)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or to taste
  • sparkling grapefruit soda to top
  • ice cubes
  • coarse salt for rim, optional
  • blood orange slice or lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  • If desired, run a lime wedge around your glass and dip in coarse salt to rim.
  • Fill a shaker with ice. Add blood orange juice, tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  • Shake for about 10 seconds until cold.
  • Fill glass with ice. Strain mixture into glass.
  • Top with sparkling grapefruit soda and stir gently.

Notes

Fresh blood oranges are best, but bottled juice is fine. Adjust simple syrup to taste. Mezcal can be substituted for a smoky version. Serve immediately for best fizz.
