Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger
  • Highball glass
  • Citrus juicer
  • Small plate
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila or tequila blanco
  • 0.5 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice optional if using grapefruit soda
  • 4 oz grapefruit soda
  • 0.25 oz simple syrup or agave nectar, to taste
  • coarse salt for the rim
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it into coarse salt.
  • Fill the glass with ice.
  • Combine tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit juice (if you’re using it) in a cocktail shaker.
  • Shake briefly to chill.
  • Pour that mix into your prepared glass.
  • Top with grapefruit soda and stir gently.
  • Taste, then adjust with simple syrup or agave nectar if you want it sweeter.

Notes

Silver tequila blends easily with citrus and keeps things smooth. For a lighter drink, use more soda and less tequila. Less sweet? Swap soda for club soda plus fresh grapefruit juice. A pinch of salt in the drink—not just the rim—can boost the flavors. Chill all ingredients before mixing for best results.
