Equipment

  • Citrus juicer
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Tall glass or pitcher
  • long spoon or stirrer
  • Ice cube tray
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Muddler

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh orange juice or blood orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey to taste
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger optional
  • 1 cup sparkling water plain or orange-flavored
  • ice cubes
  • orange slices for garnish
  • mint or rosemary sprigs optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Juice enough oranges to make 1 cup. Strain to remove pulp.
  • Combine honey, cloves, ginger, and 2 tbsp orange juice in a small saucepan. Warm gently, stirring until honey melts. Let sit 5 minutes.
  • Strain out cloves and ginger. Stir syrup into remaining orange juice.
  • Fill glass with ice, pour in orange mix. Top with sparkling water and stir gently.
  • Garnish with orange slice and a sprig of mint or rosemary.

Notes

Blood orange is extra vibrant and rich. Chill orange mix before serving for a crisper spritz. Add more honey for a sweeter drink, or steep cloves longer for more spice. Garnish with herbs for a fresh finish!
