Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Champagne flute or tall glass
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz gin
  • 1 oz fresh orange juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 2-3 oz chilled sparkling wine or champagne
  • Orange twist for garnish

Use fresh orange juice for the best flavor. To make simple syrup, mix equal parts sugar and water in a pot. Heat until the sugar dissolves, then cool before using.

Instructions

  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add gin, orange juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Shake hard for 10-15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
  • Strain into a chilled glass filled with ice.
  • Top with sparkling wine.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon to mix.
  • Garnish with an orange twist.

Shake the first three ingredients well to make sure they're cold and blended. Add the sparkling wine last to keep the bubbles fresh. Don't shake after adding it, or you'll lose the fizz.

    Notes

This drink is best served right away while it's cold and bubbly. You can adjust the sweetness by changing the amount of simple syrup.
For a non-alcoholic version, swap the gin for more orange juice and use sparkling water instead of wine.
Try different gins to change the flavor. Some have more citrus notes that work well in this drink. You can also add a dash of orange bitters for extra depth.
