This warming cocktail blends whiskey with apple cider and whole spices like star anise, cinnamon, and cloves. Brightened with citrus peel and sweetened to taste, it’s perfect for cozy evenings and sharing with friends.
Pour apple cider (or water) into a saucepan and set over medium heat.
Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, ginger, nutmeg, and citrus peel.
Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in whiskey.
Taste and add honey or sugar if desired.
Strain out spices with a fine mesh strainer.
Ladle into heatproof mugs and serve warm. Garnish with extra star anise or a cinnamon stick if desired.
Notes
Adjust sweetness and spice to taste. For a stronger citrus note, use both orange and lemon peel. Always add whiskey after simmering. Recipe is easily doubled for groups.
