  • Muddler
  • Strainer
  • Julep cup or tall glass
  • Ice
  • Measuring jigger
  • Bar spoon
  • Mint sprig and lemon wheel for garnish

Ingredients

For one Mint Julep Twist cocktail:

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 8-10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2-3 dashes orange bitters
  • Crushed ice
  • Club soda optional

Use good quality bourbon for the best flavor. Fresh mint and lemon are key to this drink's bright taste.

Instructions

  • Add mint leaves and simple syrup to a shaker, then muddle gently.
  • Pour in bourbon, lemon juice, and bitters. Then, fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake the mixture hard for 10-15 seconds.
  • Fill a julep cup or glass with crushed ice.
  • Strain the mixture into the cup, then top with more crushed ice. Add a splash of club soda if desired.
  • Finally, garnish with a mint sprig and lemon wheel. Serve right away with a short straw.

Enjoy your Mint Julep Twist while it's ice cold!

    Notes

This twist on the classic uses lemon for extra zing. Adjust sweetness by changing the amount of simple syrup.
For a non-alcoholic version, swap bourbon for apple juice or iced tea.
Make sure to use plenty of crushed ice. It keeps the drink cold and helps dilute the strong bourbon.
Try different bitters for new flavor combos. Peach or lavender bitters work well too.
