Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Strainer
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Margarita glass or tumbler
  • Small plate (for rim)
  • Spoon or stir stick
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver or blanco tequila reposado also works
  • 1 oz melon liqueur such as Midori
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz triple sec or Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1 cup ice cubes for shaking
  • melon balls (cantaloupe or honeydew) optional, for garnish
  • lime wheel optional, for garnish
  • salt or sugar for rimming glass

Instructions

  • Rim the glass with lime juice, then dip in salt or sugar to coat; set aside.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
  • Add tequila, melon liqueur, fresh lime juice, triple sec (or Cointreau/Grand Marnier), and simple syrup (or agave).
  • Shake hard for about 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels icy cold.
  • Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish with melon balls or a lime wheel. Adjust sweetness or tartness with more syrup or lime to taste.

Notes

Blanco tequila keeps flavors crisp; reposado adds oak and spice. For a frozen version, blend ingredients with a cup of ice. Chill the glass and shaker first for a cleaner texture and colder sip.
