Equipment

  • Small whisk or bamboo whisk (chasen)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cup
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Tall glass or cocktail shaker
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Spoon or stirrer
  • Ice cube tray

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder or green tea powder
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, agave, or simple syrup
  • 0.5 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • 0.5 cup coconut water optional, for extra flavor
  • ice cubes
  • 1 oz vodka, rum, or gin optional, for cocktail version
  • extra mint leaves and lime slices for garnish

Instructions

  • Whisk matcha powder with 2–3 tablespoons of warm water in a small bowl until smooth.
  • Put mint leaves and lime juice into a tall glass or shaker and muddle gently to release mint oils (do not tear the leaves).
  • Add your chosen sweetener and stir lightly.
  • Pour in the matcha mixture.
  • Add a handful of ice cubes.
  • Add sparkling water and coconut water (if using).
  • Stir gently, then garnish with lime slices and mint sprigs. Serve immediately.

Notes

Sift matcha powder first for a smoother drink. Muddle mint gently to avoid bitterness. For a lighter drink, skip the coconut water and use just sparkling water or club soda. Add vodka, rum, or gin for a cocktail version. Taste and adjust sweetness or lime to your liking. Enjoy as a vibrant, antioxidant-rich refresher for any occasion!
