Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Tall glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice

Ingredients

For one Margarita Sunset cocktail:

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • 1/2 oz grenadine
  • Ice
  • Orange slice and cherry for garnish optional

Use fresh lime and orange juice for the best taste. Pick a good quality silver tequila. The grenadine creates the sunset effect.

Instructions

  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add tequila, lime juice, orange juice, and triple sec to the shaker.
  • Shake well for 10-15 seconds.
  • Fill a tall glass with ice.
  • Strain the mixture into the glass.
  • Slowly pour grenadine down the inside of the glass. It will sink to the bottom.
  • Gently stir to create a gradient effect.
  • Garnish with an orange slice and cherry if desired.

Notes

The key to the sunset look is adding grenadine last. Pour it slowly so it sinks to the bottom. This creates the pretty color layers.
For a stronger drink, add more tequila. For less alcohol, use more orange juice.
You can rim the glass with salt before pouring. Rub a lime wedge on the rim, then dip in salt.
Try different fruit juices to change the flavor. Pineapple or grapefruit work well.
Make a big batch for parties. Just multiply the recipe by the number of drinks you want.
