  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Stirring stick or spoon
  • Optional: grater for nutmeg or ginger
  • Optional: muddler for ginger

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or maple bourbon, smoked maple bourbon, apple brandy, or rum
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup boiling water or brewed ginger tea
  • 3-5 slices fresh ginger or 1 ginger teabag
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 slice lemon or lemon peel
  • 1 star anise optional
  • 1 tbsp honey optional, for added sweetness
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg or a few gratings from whole nutmeg
  • 2-3 whole cloves optional
  • Garnishes: cinnamon stick, ginger slice, candied ginger, mint optional

Instructions

  • Add ginger slices or a ginger teabag to your mug.
  • Pour in boiling water or hot ginger tea, steep for about 3–4 minutes, then remove ginger or teabag.
  • Add bourbon, maple syrup, lemon juice, and honey (if using) to the mug.
  • Add cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, and a pinch of nutmeg. Stir to combine.
  • Garnish with lemon slice, candied ginger, mint, or a cinnamon stick. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

Use real maple syrup and fresh lemon juice for the best flavor. Try apple cider or tea instead of water for a twist. Add more ginger or honey to taste. Swap in maple whiskey or apple brandy if desired. Use a cinnamon stick as a stirrer for extra aroma.
