Equipment

  • Short glass (Old Fashioned or rocks glass)
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Measuring jigger or tablespoon
  • Peeler or knife
  • Large ice cubes or ice sphere
  • Mixing glass (optional)
  • Strainer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
  • 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • orange peel for garnish
  • maraschino cherry optional

Instructions

  • Add maple syrup and bitters to the bottom of your glass.
  • Pour in the bourbon.
  • Stir well until mixed.
  • Add a large ice cube or two.
  • Stir again to chill the drink.
  • Use the peeler or knife to remove a strip of orange peel.
  • Gently twist the peel over the drink to release oils, then drop it in.
  • Add a maraschino cherry if you like.

Notes

Pure maple syrup is best—avoid anything with additives. For a less sweet drink, reduce the syrup. Big ice cubes keep the cocktail cold without dilution. Garnish with a cherry or orange slice for extra flavor. Easy to double for guests.
