Malibu Sunset Cocktail Recipe
A colorful, tropical layered cocktail with coconut rum, pineapple and orange juices, and a splash of grenadine for the signature sunset effect.
Equipment
- Hurricane glass
- Cocktail shaker
- Jigger or measuring cup
- Bar spoon
- Ice
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Malibu coconut rum
- 3 oz pineapple juice
- 3 oz orange juice
- 0.5 oz grenadine pour slowly for layered effect
- ice cubes or crushed ice for glass and shaker
- maraschino cherry for garnish
- fresh pineapple wedge for garnish
- orange slice for garnish
Instructions
- Fill a hurricane glass with ice to chill.
- In a cocktail shaker with ice, add Malibu coconut rum, pineapple juice, and orange juice; shake until well-chilled.
- Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
- Slowly pour grenadine down a bar spoon so it settles at the bottom and creates a layered sunset effect.
- Garnish with a maraschino cherry, pineapple wedge, and orange slice. Serve without stirring.
Notes
For sharper layers, use clear ice and keep ingredients well-chilled. Adjust sweetness by reducing grenadine or adding a splash more citrus. A highball glass works too, but the hurricane glass shows off the colors best.
