Equipment

  • Hurricane glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Bar spoon
  • Measuring jigger
  • Ice scoop or tongs
  • Mixing glass (optional)
  • Strainer

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Malibu coconut rum
  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • 2 oz orange juice fresh if possible
  • 1 oz mango juice optional, for extra sweetness
  • 0.5 oz grenadine syrup
  • 0.25 oz lime juice optional, for balance
  • ice cubes
  • orange slice for garnish
  • maraschino cherry for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a hurricane glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Malibu rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and mango juice (if using) to a shaker or mixing glass.
  • Shake lightly or stir, then strain into the hurricane glass over ice.
  • Slowly pour grenadine down the side of the glass (or over a bar spoon) so it settles at the bottom and creates a sunset layer.
  • Add a squeeze of lime juice for extra brightness if you like.
  • Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry. Serve without stirring for the best color effect.

Notes

Don’t stir after adding grenadine if you want the sunset effect. Adjust sweetness and tartness by changing the grenadine or lime juice. Fresh juice is best, but bottled works too. The hurricane glass shows off the colors best.
