Equipment

  • Highball glass or mason jar
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon or long cocktail spoon
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice cube tray (for regular ice)
  • Ice cube tray (for red-colored ice, optional)
  • Strainer
  • Small knife and cutting board for garnish

Ingredients

  • ½ oz vodka
  • ½ oz white rum
  • ½ oz silver tequila
  • ½ oz gin
  • ½ oz triple sec
  • ½ oz blue curaçao
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • Splash of grenadine
  • Cola to top
  • Lemon wheel for garnish
  • Red food coloring for red ice cubes, optional

Instructions

  • Prepare red ice cubes in advance if using (mix water with red food coloring and freeze).
  • Fill a highball glass with regular ice cubes.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka, rum, tequila, gin, triple sec, blue curaçao, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
  • Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until well-chilled.
  • Strain the mixture into the prepared glass.
  • Slowly pour cola over the back of a bar spoon to create a layered effect.
  • Gently add a splash of grenadine (or use red ice cubes).
  • Garnish with a lemon wheel.
  • The key to beautiful layers is pouring each ingredient slowly. The heaviest ingredients will sink to the bottom, creating the red, white, and blue effect.

Notes

This cocktail contains multiple spirits and is quite strong. If you're worried about the booze, try reducing the spirits to ¼ oz each or swap some for fruit juices.
For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the spirits with a mix of fruit juices (pineapple, white grape, and apple) and use blue sports drink instead of blue curaçao.
The red color from grenadine tends to mix quickly, so using red ice cubes can create a longer-lasting effect as they slowly melt.
This recipe makes one serving but can be scaled up for a pitcher. Just multiply the ingredients by the number of servings needed, but add the cola separately to each glass when serving.
