Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Champagne flutes or wine glasses
  • Cutting Board
  • Sharp knife
  • Citrus juicer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 oz 30 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz 30 ml simple syrup
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves
  • 3-4 oz 90-120 ml chilled Prosecco
  • Lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish
  • Ice cubes

Fresh ingredients are key for this cocktail. Use ripe lemons for the best flavor. Pick bright green basil leaves without any brown spots.

Instructions

  • Put basil leaves in the shaker and gently muddle them.
  • Add lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice to the shaker.
  • Shake well for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled glass.
  • Top with Prosecco.
  • Stir gently to mix.
  • Garnish with a lemon slice and basil sprig.

Shake the mixture well to blend the flavors. Add the Prosecco last to keep its bubbles.

Don't overmix after adding Prosecco or it will go flat.

      Notes

Make simple syrup by mixing equal parts sugar and water. Heat until sugar dissolves.
For a stronger basil taste, let the muddled leaves sit in the lemon juice for 5 minutes before shaking.
Try different citrus fruits like lime or grapefruit for variety.
Use a flavored simple syrup like lavender or elderflower to change up the taste.
This recipe is easy to scale up for larger groups.
Keep the ingredients and glasses cold for the best results.
You can prep the lemon-basil mixture ahead of time and add Prosecco just before serving.
