Equipment

  • Blender
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Fine strainer
  • Measuring jigger
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Small saucepan
  • Margarita glasses
  • Citrus juicer

Ingredients

  • 2 cups watermelon juice fresh, from blended seedless watermelon
  • 2 oz tequila silver or blanco
  • 1 oz lime juice fresh
  • 1 oz triple sec or other orange liqueur
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or agave nectar; adjust to taste
  • 2-3 slices jalapeño thin; remove seeds for less heat
  • ice cubes
  • watermelon wedge for garnish
  • jalapeño slice for garnish

Instructions

  • Blend the fresh watermelon until smooth, then strain out the pulp to make watermelon juice.
  • Add tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and simple syrup (or agave) to a cocktail shaker.
  • Add the jalapeño slices and a generous handful of ice.
  • Shake hard for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
  • Strain into margarita glasses filled with fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a small watermelon wedge or a jalapeño slice.

Notes

Fresh watermelon juice and fresh-squeezed lime give the best flavor and color. Prep watermelon juice and (optional) jalapeño syrup in advance and chill if serving a crowd. A chili-salt rim pairs beautifully with the sweet watermelon.
