Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder or hot chocolate mix
  • 1-2 tsp sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 oz peppermint schnapps
  • whipped cream for topping
  • mini marshmallows optional
  • crushed candy cane optional garnish

Instructions

  • Heat milk in a saucepan over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Whisk in cocoa powder and sugar until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in peppermint schnapps.
  • Pour into a mug.
  • Top with whipped cream.
  • Add mini marshmallows if desired.
  • Sprinkle with crushed candy cane for garnish.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, substitute peppermint extract (about 1/8 tsp). For group servings, scale up and keep warm in a slow cooker on low.
