Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1-2 oz whiskey, bourbon, rum, brandy, gin, or vodka choose your favorite
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1-2 tsp lemon juice fresh preferred
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 whole cloves
  • 1 slice fresh lemon for garnish
  • star anise optional
  • fresh ginger slices optional
  • extra spices optional

Instructions

  • Pour apple cider into a saucepan.
  • Add cinnamon stick, cloves, and any extra spices.
  • Warm over medium-low heat until steaming, without boiling.
  • Remove from heat and stir in honey or brown sugar until dissolved.
  • Add lemon juice and chosen liquor.
  • Stir gently.
  • Strain into a heatproof mug if desired.
  • Garnish with a lemon slice and serve hot.

Notes

Swap in orange juice for a softer citrus note. Add ginger for warmth or star anise for a licorice hint. Simmer spices longer for a stronger flavor, or add them directly to the mug for a milder taste. Add liquor last to preserve aroma and taste.
