Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker: I use this to mix and chill the drink fast.
  • Muddler: I mash honeydew pieces for extra flavor.
  • Strainer: This keeps the fruit chunks out of my glass.
  • Measuring jigger: Helps me keep things balanced.
  • Sharp knife: For slicing the honeydew and lime.
  • Cutting board: Always good to have a safe surface for the fruit.
  • Serving glass (highball or tumbler): I go for something that holds 8–12 ounces.
  • Spoon: For a gentle stir at the end.
  • Ice cubes: Gotta keep it cold.

Ingredients

  • Fresh honeydew melon: 1/2 cup cut into small cubes
  • Vodka: 1.5 ounces or gin, or white rum if you’re feeling adventurous
  • Fresh lime juice: 1 ounce
  • Simple syrup: 1/2 ounce totally optional, for more sweetness
  • Club soda or sparkling water: 3–4 ounces chilled
  • Ice cubes: Enough to fill your glass
  • Mint leaves: 2–3 for garnish
  • Honeydew slice or ball: For garnish
  • All ingredients should be as fresh as possible—makes a huge difference in taste and color.

Instructions

  • Add honeydew cubes to your shaker and mash them up until they’re juicy and pulpy.
  • Pour in vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  • Fill the shaker with ice, close it, and shake hard for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain the mix into a tall glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top off with 3–4 ounces of club soda or sparkling water. Pour gently so you don’t lose all the fizz.
  • Stir lightly with a spoon—just enough to mix, not kill the bubbles.
  • Garnish with a mint leaf and a slice or melon ball before serving.

Notes

I like to taste the mix before adding club soda, just so I can tweak the sweetness with more syrup or lime juice if it needs it.
If my honeydew isn’t super flavorful, I’ll use a bit more syrup to bring out the fruit. For a non-alcoholic version, I just skip the vodka—easy.
My favorite glass for this is a highball. It shows off the green color and holds plenty of ice.
If I’m prepping ahead, I chill all the ingredients and cut the fruit in advance. The soda always goes in last minute for the best fizz.
