Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Cocktail glass
  • Ice cube tray
  • Small saucepan (for honey syrup)
  • Fine-mesh strainer

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz honey syrup equal parts honey and hot water
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt or sugar for rim optional
  • Lemon wheel for garnish

For honey syrup:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Instructions

  • Make honey syrup by mixing equal parts hot water and honey in a small saucepan. Stir until honey dissolves. Let cool.
  • If using a rim, run a lemon wedge around the edge of the glass and dip in salt or sugar.
  • Fill cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add tequila, fresh lemon juice, honey syrup, and triple sec to the shaker.
  • Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until well chilled.
  • Strain into prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Notes

Store honey syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
For a sweeter drink, add an extra 1/4 oz of honey syrup.
The drink can be served on the rocks or straight up in a chilled coupe glass.
Fresh lemon juice makes a big difference - avoid using bottled juice.
