  • Tall glass or mason jar
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer
  • Ice
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz bourbon smooth, for a rich taste
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 0.75 oz honey syrup see notes for how to make
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice about half a big lemon
  • 2-3 oz cold soda water to top, or more to taste
  • 5-6 fresh mint leaves optional, plus more for garnish
  • lemon slices or wheels for garnish
  • ice

Instructions

  • Add the bourbon, vodka, honey syrup, and fresh lemon juice to the cocktail shaker.
  • If using mint, gently slap the leaves to release aroma, then add to shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
  • Strain the liquid into a tall glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with cold soda water and stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a lemon slice and a sprig of fresh mint.

Notes

To make honey syrup, mix equal parts honey and warm water until dissolved. Adjust honey syrup to taste for more or less sweetness. Use good bourbon and fresh lemon juice for best results. For a lighter drink, add more soda water. Can be batched in a pitcher for parties—just add soda at serving. If you’re out of honey syrup, simple syrup works in a pinch, but honey gives the best flavor!
