Equipment

  • Rocks glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer
  • Small knife
  • Ice cubes
  • Fine-mesh strainer

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila blanco or reposado
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or agave syrup sweeten to taste
  • 2 oz grapefruit soda
  • club soda optional, for topping up
  • ice cubes
  • grapefruit wedge for garnish
  • coarse salt optional, for rimming glass

Instructions

  • If desired, rim your glass with coarse salt by rubbing a grapefruit wedge around the rim and dipping it into the salt.
  • Pour tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and syrup into a cocktail shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake for about 15 seconds until cold.
  • Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with grapefruit soda, and add club soda if desired for a lighter drink.
  • Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

Notes

Use 100% fresh juices for the brightest, most refreshing flavor. Adjust sweetness by using more or less syrup, or swap grapefruit soda for club soda for a lighter drink. Reposado tequila adds warmth, while blanco keeps the drink crisp. A salted rim and fresh garnish make it extra festive.
