Equipment

  • A large pitcher
  • A wooden spoon for stirring
  • A fine mesh strainer
  • Ice cube trays
  • Tall glasses for serving

Ingredients

Here's what you'll need to make 4 servings:

  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice about 4-5 lemons
  • 1/3 cup sugar or to taste
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and mint leaves for garnish

You can adjust the sugar to make it more or less sweet. For a twist, try using honey instead of sugar.

Instructions

Follow these steps to make your mocktails:

  • Boil 2 cups of water in a pot.
  • Add hibiscus flowers and remove from heat.
  • Let steep for 10 minutes.
  • Strain the hibiscus tea into a pitcher.
  • Add sugar and stir until it dissolves.
  • Pour in lemon juice and the rest of the water.
  • Stir well and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  • Fill glasses with ice cubes.
  • Pour the chilled hibiscus lemonade over ice.
  • Garnish with lemon slices and mint leaves.

Serve right away and enjoy your cool, fruity drink!

    Notes

This recipe is very flexible. You can make it stronger by using more hibiscus flowers or weaker by adding more water. For a bubbly version, mix the hibiscus lemonade with sparkling water just before serving.
If you can't find dried hibiscus flowers, you can use hibiscus tea bags instead. Use 4-5 tea bags for this recipe.
You can make a big batch and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just give it a good stir before pouring.
For a party, set up a mocktail bar. Put out the hibiscus lemonade, glasses, ice, and fun garnishes like fruit slices and herb sprigs. Let guests mix their own drinks.
