Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker with strainer
  • Martini or coupe glass
  • Small plate for sugar rim
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Hennessey Cognac
  • 0.75 oz triple sec or Cointreau (orange liqueur)
  • 0.75 oz lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • granulated sugar for rimming the glass
  • ice cubes for shaking
  • 1 lemon twist or thin lemon slice, for garnish

Instructions

  • Chill a martini or coupe glass. Rub a lemon wedge around the rim, then dip the rim into granulated sugar.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
  • Add Hennessey cognac, triple sec (or Cointreau), fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup.
  • Shake hard for about 15 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  • Strain into the prepared, sugar‑rimmed glass and garnish with a lemon twist or thin slice. Serve immediately.

Notes

Fresh lemon juice makes a big difference. Adjust sweetness with more or less simple syrup. Try Grand Marnier for a richer orange note, or add a splash of sparkling water for a lighter sip.
