Equipment

  • Coffee maker or espresso machine
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Milk frother or whisk
  • Heatproof glass or mug
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon
  • Nutmeg grater

Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee or espresso
  • 1 oz Irish whiskey such as Jameson
  • 1 oz Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
  • 1 oz Baileys Irish Cream or another Irish cream
  • 0.5 oz coffee liqueur optional
  • 1 tsp sugar white or brown
  • whipped cream lightly whipped
  • freshly grated nutmeg or crushed hazelnut, for garnish

Instructions

  • Brew hot coffee or espresso and pour into a heatproof mug.
  • Stir in the sugar until dissolved.
  • Add Irish whiskey, Frangelico, and Baileys (plus coffee liqueur if using).
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Lightly whip the cream until pourable, then slowly pour over the back of a spoon to float on top.
  • Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg or crushed hazelnut.

Notes

Use soft-whipped cream for best texture. Jameson is classic, but any Irish whiskey will work. Add more Baileys or a splash of coffee liqueur for extra sweetness or coffee flavor.
