  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice cubes
  • Small plate for Tajín or salt
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila or rosa tequila for color
  • 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 4-5 oz Topo Chico sparkling mineral water
  • 0.25 oz grapefruit soda optional, for extra sweetness
  • grapefruit LMNT electrolytes optional, pinch for salty touch
  • Tajín or coarse salt for rimming
  • grapefruit wedge or lime wheel for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Rim your glass with lime juice, then dip it in Tajín or salt.
  • Fill the glass about three-quarters with ice.
  • Combine tequila, grapefruit juice, and lime juice in a shaker.
  • Stir or shake gently to chill, but do not over-shake.
  • Pour everything into your prepared glass.
  • Top off with Topo Chico or another bubbly mineral water.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or lime wheel.

Notes

Use Topo Chico for the longest-lasting fizz. Fresh juice is best, but bottled can work in a pinch. Adjust tequila or water to taste. Mezcal adds a smoky twist. Electrolyte powder gives a salty edge if desired.
