  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon
  • Mixing glass
  • Coupe or small cocktail glass
  • Microplane grater

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz gingerbread syrup homemade or store-bought
  • 1/2 oz ginger liqueur
  • 1/2 tsp molasses
  • 1 egg fresh and chilled
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon pinch
  • ground nutmeg pinch
  • ground allspice pinch
  • ice cubes
  • grated nutmeg or cinnamon stick for garnish

Instructions

  • Add vodka, gingerbread syrup, ginger liqueur, molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the cocktail shaker.
  • Add a pinch each of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Dry-shake (no ice) for about 15 seconds until frothy.
  • Add ice to the shaker and shake again for 30 seconds until very cold.
  • Double strain into a coupe or small cocktail glass.
  • Top with grated nutmeg or garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Notes

Use fresh, cold eggs for safety and best foam. Make gingerbread syrup with molasses, ginger, sugar, and spices or buy pre-made. Pasteurized eggs or just yolk work if you prefer. Taste and tweak spice or sweetness as desired. Swap ginger liqueur for more or less spice. Garnish with extra nutmeg for aroma!
