Equipment

  • Copper mug
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Muddler or spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Long spoon or cocktail stirrer
  • Ice scoop or tongs

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka good-quality for best taste
  • 2 oz pear juice fresh or bottled
  • 0.5 fresh ripe pear sliced for muddling and garnish
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 4 oz ginger beer non-alcoholic, spicy
  • ice cubes about 1 cup per serving
  • thin pear slices, lime wedges, or fresh mint optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Add sliced pear to the copper mug and gently muddle it to release juices.
  • Fill the mug halfway with ice cubes.
  • Pour in the vodka and pear juice.
  • Add the fresh lime juice and stir everything together.
  • Top with ginger beer, pouring slowly to keep the bubbles and fizz.
  • Stir again gently with a long spoon.
  • Garnish with a thin pear slice, lime wedge, or sprig of mint if you have it.

Notes

For a less sweet cocktail, use less pear juice or a drier ginger beer. Gin can replace vodka for a herbal twist. Chill pear juice before using for the coldest mule. Serve right away for the best fizz. Real lime juice makes a big difference in brightness and taste.
