Equipment

  • Large pitcher
  • Citrus juicer
  • Fine grater or zester
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tall glasses
  • Ice cube tray
  • Stirring spoon
  • Cutting board and knife

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh orange juice about 8-10 oranges
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 cups sparkling water
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup adjust to taste
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Orange slices and mint leaves for garnish

Fresh ingredients make a big difference in this recipe. Choose oranges that feel heavy for their size to get the most juice.

Instructions

  • Wash oranges thoroughly and pat dry.
  • Zest one orange to get about 1 tablespoon of zest. Set aside.
  • Cut oranges in half and juice them until you have 4 cups of juice.
  • Peel and grate the fresh ginger until you have 2 tablespoons.
  • In a large pitcher, combine orange juice, grated ginger, orange zest, and honey. Stir well until honey dissolves completely.
  • Refrigerate mixture for at least 30 minutes to let flavors blend.
  • Just before serving, add sparkling water and stir gently.
  • Fill glasses with ice, pour in the mocktail, and garnish with orange slices and mint leaves.

Notes

This mocktail can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance (without the sparkling water). Add the sparkling water just before serving to maintain fizziness.
For a spicier version, try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few slices of jalapeño.
Replace honey with agave syrup for a vegan option. The recipe works well with blood oranges when in season for a beautiful color variation.
Leftover mocktail can be frozen in ice cube trays and added to future drinks for extra flavor without diluting them.
