Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon mid-range bourbon recommended
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or maple syrup for deeper flavor
  • 0.5 lemon cut into wedges
  • 4-5 leaves fresh mint plus sprig for garnish
  • 2-3 blackberries optional, for a fruity twist
  • 2 oz ginger beer or ginger ale
  • crushed ice for serving

Instructions

  • Add lemon wedges, mint leaves, and syrup to a shaker. Muddle gently to release juice and oils.
  • Pour in bourbon and a handful of crushed ice.
  • Shake for about 10 seconds to chill and mix.
  • Strain into a rocks glass packed with fresh crushed ice.
  • Top with ginger beer or ginger ale. Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig and lemon wedge. Add blackberries if desired.

Notes

For a milder drink, use ginger ale. Maple syrup adds a cozier, richer flavor. Muddle the base ahead for parties and add soda just before serving. Chill glasses for a frosty finish. Try peaches for a summer twist or adjust syrup to taste.
