Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker: To mix the ginger syrup and lime juice well before adding Prosecco
  • Strainer: Helps remove pulp and ice while pouring
  • Jigger or measuring spoons: For precise measurement of syrup and juice
  • Citrus juicer: To get the most juice from fresh limes
  • Bar spoon: Useful for gentle stirring
  • Chilled flute or wine glass: Keeps the drink cold
  • Knife and cutting board: For slicing limes
  • Ice: Needed both for shaking and serving

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Prosecco chilled
  • 1 oz ginger syrup store-bought or homemade
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel or twist for garnish
  • Fresh mint optional for garnish
  • Extra ginger slices optional for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add ginger syrup and fresh lime juice to the shaker.
  • Shake well for about 10 seconds to chill and mix.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled glass.
  • Top with cold Prosecco.
  • Gently stir with a bar spoon to combine, being careful not to lose the bubbles.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel, twist, or ginger slice.
  • Add a sprig of mint if desired for aroma.

Notes

I serve this cocktail right after making it so the bubbles are lively.
For a spicy twist, I’ll sometimes add a thin slice of fresh ginger to the shaker. If guests want a sweeter drink, I just let them add half an ounce more ginger syrup. Easy enough.
This drink pairs well with light appetizers like shrimp or crackers.
I avoid using sweet Prosecco because it overpowers the ginger and lime. For a non-alcoholic version, I swap Prosecco with sparkling water.
If I’m making these for a crowd, I’ll mix the syrup and juice ahead in a pitcher, then pour and top with Prosecco right before serving. Otherwise, it loses its oomph.
