Equipment

  • Large clear glass or mason jar
  • Measuring cups
  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon
  • Ice cube tray
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Small funnel (optional)
  • Decorative straws
  • Cutting board and knife (for fruit garnishes)

Ingredients

  • 1 oz grenadine syrup
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz blue curaçao syrup non-alcoholic
  • Club soda or lemon-lime soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh fruit for garnish orange slices, pineapple chunks, maraschino cherries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar optional, for rimming the glass

All juices should be chilled beforehand for best results.

Instructions

  • Prepare the glass: If desired, rim your glass with sugar by wetting the rim and dipping it in sugar.
  • Create the bottom layer: Pour the grenadine into the bottom of the glass.
  • Add the second layer: Using the back of a spoon, slowly pour the orange juice over the grenadine. Pour gently so the layers don't mix.
  • Add the third layer: Using the same technique, slowly add the pineapple juice.
  • Add the fourth layer: Again with the back of the spoon, slowly pour the blue curaçao syrup.
  • Finish with bubbles: Top with club soda or lemon-lime soda.
  • Garnish: Add fresh fruit to the rim of the glass and a decorative straw.

For best results, pour each layer very slowly. The different densities of the juices help them stay separate.

    Notes

This mocktail can be adjusted based on preferences. For a less sweet version, use sparkling water instead of lemon-lime soda.
The mocktail is best served immediately after making, as the layers will eventually mix together.
For a party, prepare the juice layers in advance but add the soda just before serving.
Kids love this colorful drink for birthday parties. Meanwhile, adults can turn this into a cocktail by adding 1 oz of vodka or white rum to the top layer.
For a frozen version, blend each colored juice with ice separately, then layer in the glass for a rainbow slushy effect.
