Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Cocktail glass
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Fine-mesh strainer

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ¾ oz triple sec or orange liqueur
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • 3-4 slices of fresh jalapeño seeds removed for less heat
  • 2 strawberries hulled and quartered
  • Salt for rimming optional
  • Lime wheel for garnish
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Run a lime wedge around your glass rim, then dip it in salt if you’re feeling it.
  • Drop the jalapeño slices and strawberries into your shaker and muddle them gently to get those flavors going.
  • Add tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Fill with ice and shake hard for about 15–20 seconds, until everything’s nice and cold.
  • Strain into your prepared glass over fresh ice.
  • Top it off with a lime wheel and maybe another jalapeño slice if you’re brave.
  • Let it sit for a minute before you dive in—gives the flavors a chance to come together. If you’re all about presentation, serve it in a clear glass so that red color really pops.

Notes

Heat level is totally up to you. Use fewer jalapeño slices and ditch the seeds for a milder drink, or keep the seeds and muddle with gusto if you want more fire.
You can prep this cocktail ahead of time (just skip the ice until you’re ready to serve), and stash it in the fridge for up to 4 hours. Just shake with ice when it’s go time.
For a frozen take, toss all the ingredients in a blender with about a cup of ice and blend till smooth. It’s a little less boozy but super refreshing on a hot day.
