Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 0.5 oz fig syrup fig jam thinned with water works too
  • 1 bar spoon maple syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 0.25 tsp balsamic vinegar optional
  • fresh or dried fig for muddling or garnish
  • walnut pieces or walnut bitters
  • orange peel for garnish
  • cocktail cherry optional
  • large ice cube

Instructions

  • Pour fig syrup, maple syrup, and balsamic vinegar (if using) into a mixing glass.
  • Add a chunk of fresh or dried fig for extra fig flavor.
  • Add bourbon or rye whiskey and orange bitters.
  • Add walnut bitters or muddle walnut pieces for a nutty note.
  • Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for 30 seconds until chilled.
  • Place a large ice cube in your rocks glass.
  • Strain the cocktail into the rocks glass.
  • Express an orange peel over the drink and drop it in.
  • Garnish with a cocktail cherry and a fig slice if desired.

Notes

Bourbon offers vanilla sweetness, while rye adds spice. Maple syrup and figs complement each other perfectly, and a touch of balsamic vinegar adds depth. Use walnut bitters or muddled walnuts for a warm, nutty undertone. Strain well if using fresh figs to keep the drink smooth.
