Equipment

  • Highball glass or rocks glass
  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Muddler (or back of a spoon)
  • Citrus juicer
  • Bar spoon or small spoon
  • Measuring jigger or small measuring cup

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila blanco works best
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3-4 slices cucumber
  • 4-5 fresh mint leaves
  • Topo Chico or sparkling water chilled
  • ice cubes
  • lime wheel or mint sprig for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Put cucumber slices and mint leaves in the shaker.
  • Muddle gently until the mint is fragrant and cucumber softens.
  • Pour in tequila and fresh lime juice.
  • Add ice and shake for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with chilled Topo Chico or sparkling water.
  • Give it a quick stir.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel or mint sprig if desired.

Notes

Serve right away while bubbly and cold. Adjust mint or cucumber to taste. Topo Chico gives the best fizz, but any sparkling water works. Try lemon in place of lime for a twist. Simplicity is key—fresh ingredients make it shine.
