Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon
  • Small knife and cutting board
  • Chilled coupe or rocks glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin or vodka for a softer profile
  • 1 oz lime juice fresh
  • 0.75 oz simple syrup or basil simple syrup
  • 4-5 leaves fresh basil
  • 3-4 slices cucumber plus extra for garnish
  • ice cubes for shaking

Instructions

  • Add cucumber slices and basil leaves to a cocktail shaker and muddle gently to release aromas.
  • Pour in gin, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup.
  • Fill with ice and shake hard for about 15 seconds until well-chilled.
  • Double strain into a chilled coupe or rocks glass.
  • Garnish with a cucumber slice or small basil leaf and serve immediately.

Notes

Use basil simple syrup for extra herbal aroma without over-muddling the leaves. If you prefer it drier, reduce the syrup slightly. For a lighter spritz, add a splash of soda water. Avoid over-muddling basil as it can turn bitter.
Basil simple syrup: Simmer equal parts sugar and water, add basil, steep until fragrant, then strain and chill.
