Equipment

  • Copper mug
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Citrus juicer
  • Ice scoop
  • Strainer

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 2 oz cranberry juice unsweetened or sweetened, to taste
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 4 oz ginger beer chilled
  • ice cubes
  • fresh cranberries or frozen, for garnish
  • lime wedge for garnish
  • mint sprig optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill the copper mug all the way to the top with ice cubes.
  • Add bourbon, cranberry juice, and lime juice to the cocktail shaker.
  • Close the shaker and shake well for about 10 seconds.
  • Pour the shaken mix over the ice in your mug.
  • Slowly add chilled ginger beer to the mug.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon, mixing everything without losing carbonation.
  • Garnish with a handful of fresh or frozen cranberries and a lime wedge. (Optional: Add a mint sprig for a fresh scent.)

Notes

Copper mugs help keep the drink icy cold but any sturdy glass works. Frozen cranberries double as garnish and extra ice. For a Kentucky Mule, skip the cranberry juice and add more ginger beer and lime. Mocktail version: combine cranberry juice, ginger beer, and lime, omitting bourbon.
