Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or large mason jar with lid
  • Muddler (or wooden spoon as alternative)
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Jigger or measuring cups/spoons
  • Tall glasses (12-16 oz)
  • Ice cube tray
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Stirring spoon
  • Optional: cocktail picks for garnish

Ingredients

For the base (makes 4 servings):

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
  • 3-4 tablespoons honey or simple syrup
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed citrus juice mix of orange, lemon, lime
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves
  • 4 cups sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes

For garnish:

  • Citrus slices orange, lemon, lime
  • Fresh berries
  • Mint sprigs

Use the freshest ingredients possible for the best flavor.

Instructions

Prepare the berries:

  • Rinse fresh berries and remove any stems. If using frozen berries, let them thaw slightly.

Make the base:

  • Add berries, mint leaves, and honey to the cocktail shaker or mason jar. Muddle gently until berries release their juice but aren't completely crushed.

Add citrus:

  • Pour the freshly squeezed citrus juice into the shaker with the berry mixture.

Shake and strain:

  • Add a few ice cubes to the shaker, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Strain the mixture into a pitcher.

Assemble the mocktails:

  • Fill tall glasses halfway with ice. Pour the strained berry-citrus mixture, filling each glass about 1/3 full.

Add fizz:

  • Top each glass with sparkling water or club soda.

Garnish:

  • Add citrus slices, fresh berries, and mint sprigs to each glass. Stir gently before serving.

Notes

This recipe can be customized in many ways. Try using different berry combinations or seasonal fruits. For a sweeter drink, add more honey or use lemonade instead of sparkling water.
Make the berry-citrus base up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate in a sealed container. Add the sparkling water only when serving to maintain the fizz.
For a festive touch, freeze berries in ice cubes to add to the drinks. This prevents dilution while adding visual appeal.
Children especially enjoy this mocktail when served with fun paper straws or drink umbrellas. For adult gatherings, you can provide vodka or gin on the side for those who want to make it alcoholic.
