  • Highball glass
  • Muddler
  • Juicer or reamer
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Bar spoon or long spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 6-8 fresh basil leaves plus extra for garnish
  • 1 lime cut into wedges, plus more for garnish
  • lemon optional, for extra tang
  • orange optional, for a bit of sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup adjust to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice if using
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice if using
  • grapefruit juice optional, for tartness
  • sparkling water or club soda to top off, chilled
  • ice cubes enough to fill the glass

Instructions

  • Add basil leaves and simple syrup to the bottom of your glass and gently muddle.
  • Squeeze in lime wedges and optional lemon or orange.
  • Add fresh juices (lime, lemon, orange, and/or grapefruit).
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour sparkling water or club soda nearly to the top.
  • Stir well with a long spoon. Garnish with a basil sprig and citrus slice. Serve immediately.

Notes

Muddle basil gently for best flavor. Adjust simple syrup for sweetness. Club soda adds body, sparkling water is lighter. Strain for a smooth drink. Use fresh basil and citrus for maximum brightness. Perfect for hot days!
