To make this cocktail, I use a cocktail shaker. It helps blend all the liquids and ensures a smooth texture.
I also need a jigger to measure the alcohol and syrups correctly so the drink stays balanced.
A strainer lets me pour the finished drink into a glass without any unwanted pieces of ice or pulp.
I always use a rocks glass or lowball glass for serving.
For mixing, a standard bar spoon comes in handy.
Ingredients
I choose the following for a classic Cinnamon Maple Whiskey Sour:
Whiskey 2 oz60 ml
Lemon juice 1 oz30 ml
Maple syrup 0.75 oz22 ml
Ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp
Ice As needed
Orange slice or cinnamon stick For garnishoptional
Instructions
I start by adding whiskey, lemon juice, maple syrup, and ground cinnamon to my cocktail shaker.
Next, I fill the shaker with ice until it's almost full.
I shake it hard for about 15 seconds to chill the drink and mix the cinnamon well.
Then, I place my strainer on the shaker and pour the cocktail into a glass filled with fresh ice.
For extra flavor and appearance, I sometimes garnish with an orange slice or a cinnamon stick.
I serve it right away so it's cold and fresh.
Notes
When I want a milder cocktail, I reduce the whiskey to 1.5 oz. To make it sweeter, I simply add a little more maple syrup. If I want a stronger cinnamon taste, I swirl a cinnamon stick in the glass before pouring the drink. This recipe works with bourbon or rye whiskey, depending on which flavor I like more.I always shake the drink well to combine the cinnamon, otherwise it can clump. For larger gatherings, I double or triple the recipe but shake smaller batches for best results.
