Equipment

  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Mixing glass or shaker
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Rocks glass
  • Peeler (for orange peel)
  • Small plate or shallow bowl (optional, for rimming glass)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or rye Wild Turkey 101 recommended
  • 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • ground cinnamon pinch, or 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 orange peel fresh, wide cut
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Pour the bourbon (or rye), maple syrup, bitters, and cinnamon into your mixing glass.
  • Toss in a good amount of ice and stir for about 30 seconds until well chilled.
  • Strain everything into a rocks glass with fresh ice.
  • Twist the orange peel over the drink to release oils, then drop it in.
  • Add a maraschino cherry and a cinnamon stick for garnish if desired.
  • Serve right away and enjoy.

Notes

Wild Turkey 101 gives a bold kick, but most bourbons or rye work well. No ground cinnamon? Use a cinnamon stick to infuse as you sip. Adjust maple syrup to taste for more sweetness. Pre-chill your glass for a pro touch. Garnishes are optional but add aroma and color.
