  • Bar spoon
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Rocks glass
  • Large ice cube
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Citrus peeler
  • Small plate

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 0.5 oz maple syrup
  • 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • cinnamon stick for garnish
  • orange peel for garnish
  • vanilla bean pod optional garnish
  • rye whiskey can substitute for bourbon

Instructions

  • Add bourbon, maple syrup, lemon juice, angostura bitters, and ground cinnamon to a mixing glass.
  • Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for about 20 seconds, until well chilled.
  • Strain the mixture into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  • Garnish with a cinnamon stick, orange peel, and a piece of vanilla bean, if desired.

Notes

Swap in rye whiskey for a spicier kick. Add more maple syrup for extra sweetness or rim the glass with ground cinnamon for more spice. Use fresh citrus for the best flavor. Adjust the recipe to taste—more bitters or a splash of vanilla are popular tweaks.
