Equipment

  • Rocks glass
  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Large ice cube mold
  • Peeler or knife

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 0.5 oz cinnamon simple syrup homemade
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 dash aromatic bitters
  • 1 small slice of chili pepper or pinch chili flakes
  • 1 cinnamon stick for garnish
  • 1 strip of orange peel
  • 1 large ice cube

Instructions

  • Put the chili slice into a mixing glass.
  • Add bourbon, cinnamon syrup, orange bitters, and aromatic bitters.
  • Add ice and stir for 20–30 seconds.
  • Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  • Express the orange peel over the drink, then drop it in with a cinnamon stick.

Notes

Adjust the chili for more or less heat. Homemade cinnamon syrup: simmer equal parts sugar and water with cinnamon sticks for 10 minutes, then strain. A large ice cube melts slowly and keeps the drink balanced.
