This bold twist on the Old Fashioned features bourbon or rye, cinnamon syrup, bitters, and a hint of chili for warmth and gentle heat. Finished with an orange peel and cinnamon stick, it’s a cozy, spicy sipper for cool nights.
Add bourbon, cinnamon syrup, orange bitters, and aromatic bitters.
Add ice and stir for 20–30 seconds.
Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
Express the orange peel over the drink, then drop it in with a cinnamon stick.
Let rest for a minute before enjoying.
Notes
Adjust the chili for more or less heat. Homemade cinnamon syrup: simmer equal parts sugar and water with cinnamon sticks for 10 minutes, then strain. A large ice cube melts slowly and keeps the drink balanced.
