Equipment

  • Rocks glass
  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Muddler (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 0.5 oz chocolate liqueur or crème de cacao
  • 0.25 oz peppermint schnapps or a few drops peppermint extract
  • 0.25 oz mint syrup or simple syrup
  • 2 dash chocolate bitters or drizzle of chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp hot water if needed to dissolve sugar
  • crushed candy canes for rimming or mixing
  • chocolate sauce for garnish
  • candy cane or small peppermint stick for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Rim your rocks glass with chocolate sauce, then dip in crushed candy canes. Add a big ice cube to the glass.
  • In a mixing glass, combine bourbon, chocolate liqueur, peppermint schnapps or extract, and mint syrup. Add chocolate bitters or chocolate syrup.
  • Stir with a bar spoon for about 20 seconds until chilled. Strain into your prepared glass over the ice.
  • Garnish with a candy cane or small peppermint stick. Serve immediately.

Notes

Peppermint extract is strong; just a drop or two is enough. Adjust syrup or bitters to taste. Use big ice cubes to keep it cold and less diluted. Crème de cacao adds richer chocolate flavor.
