Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth Italian style preferred
  • 0.5 oz chestnut liqueur
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash black walnut liqueur optional
  • 1 maraschino or luxardo cherry for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Fill a mixing glass with ice.
  • Add whiskey, sweet vermouth, chestnut liqueur, and bitters. Add black walnut liqueur if using.
  • Stir with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds, until ice cold.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a cherry, or lemon twist for a citrus note.

Notes

Rye whiskey adds spice, bourbon adds sweetness. Try Italian vermouth for richness. Add black walnut liqueur for depth. Chill glass before serving for best results.
